Little Tigers Martial Arts in Market Harborough

Big confidence can start with small steps.

Little Tigers is our martial arts programme for children aged 4–6, designed to introduce young children to movement, confidence, discipline and the foundations of Traditional Kung Fu.

Classes are just 30 minutes long and packed with games, challenges and activities that keep young minds engaged while they’re learning.

They’ll have fun. They’ll get moving. And they’ll start developing skills that can stay with them for years.

Learning Through Fun

Four-year-olds don’t learn in the same way as adults. We don’t expect them to.

Little Tigers uses play and games to teach important skills, from balance and coordination to listening, concentration and following instructions.

There are also simple Traditional Kung Fu movements and techniques woven into the programme, giving children a strong foundation for moving into our Kids Kung Fu classes when they’re ready.

They might think they’re playing a game.

We know they’re learning.

Taught by a Teacher

There’s an important difference between knowing martial arts and knowing how to teach young children.

Chief Instructor Mike is also a qualified primary school teacher with 20 years of teaching experience.

That experience shapes the entire Little Tigers programme. Sessions are structured around how young children learn, with short activities, clear instructions, encouragement and plenty of fun.

Mike is also supported by experienced senior-grade students in our distinctive red shirts, giving Little Tigers plenty of help and attention during their class.

More Than Martial Arts

At this age, we’re building foundations.

Little Tigers helps children develop confidence, coordination, balance, concentration, listening skills, discipline and social skills while getting them active.

They’ll learn to follow instructions, work alongside other children, try new things and keep going when something doesn’t work the first time.

The Kung Fu will come.

First, we help build the child who will learn it.

Made for Little Minds

Little Tigers classes last 30 minutes.

That’s deliberate.

Sessions are kept varied and engaging, with different games, movement exercises and martial arts activities designed around the attention spans and physical development of children aged 4–6.

There’s always structure, but there’s plenty of laughter too.

No Contact. No Sparring.

Little Tigers is about developing the foundations children need before progressing into more advanced martial arts training.

There is no sparring or contact.

Instead, children develop movement, reactions, balance, coordination and basic techniques through age-appropriate games and activities in a safe, supervised environment.

Building Independence and Confidence

We know it can be tempting to watch every moment of your child’s class.

But one of the things we’re trying to develop is independence.

Once children are settled, we encourage parents to relax in our dedicated waiting area or leave them with us for their 30-minute session.

Without Mum or Dad watching from the side, children can begin to listen to their instructor, interact with the group and discover that they can do things for themselves.

Of course, every child is different. If your child needs additional support while they’re settling in, we’ll work with you to find the right approach.

A Place for Every Little Tiger

Children develop differently, and that’s absolutely fine.

Little Tigers welcomes children with different abilities and learning styles, including disabled and neurodivergent children.

Our instructors can adapt activities and the way they’re taught where needed, helping each child participate, learn and enjoy their time with us.

If there’s anything you’d like us to know about your child, just have a chat with us before they begin.

First Step Into Kung Fu

Little Tigers isn’t a watered-down adult martial arts class.

It’s the first stage of their Kung Fu journey.

At 4–6, the focus is on foundations, movement, learning and fun. When they’re ready to move into Kids Kung Fu, they’ll begin developing their Traditional Kung Fu in more depth and working towards their first sash.

For some children, Little Tigers could be the beginning of something they continue for many years.

No Pressure. Just Progress.

There are no gradings or sashes to worry about in Little Tigers.

At this age, we’d rather children concentrate on learning, enjoying themselves and developing at their own pace.

Formal sash gradings begin when they progress into Kids Kung Fu.

For now, success might simply mean joining in, listening for a little longer, mastering a new movement or walking into class without needing Mum or Dad beside them.

Those small victories matter.
