Kids Kung Fu in Market Harborough
Give your child the chance to get active, learn new skills and grow in confidence with Kids Kung Fu at East Midlands Kung Fu.
Our classes are designed for children aged 6–11 and combine traditional Kung Fu with games, challenges and activities that make learning fun.
No previous martial arts experience is needed. They can simply come along, join in and start learning.
Real Kung Fu. Made Fun.
Our Kids Kung Fu students learn the same traditional martial arts syllabus that they can continue developing as they get older.
Classes include kicks, hand techniques, blocks, traditional walks, forms, partner drills, bag work, fitness, mobility and controlled sparring.
The difference is how we teach it.
Lessons are built around younger minds and bodies, with games and challenges used to develop genuine Kung Fu skills while keeping children engaged and having fun.
Confidence That Grows With Them
Kung Fu can help children develop much more than physical skills.
Training encourages confidence, focus, discipline, resilience, coordination, fitness and respect. Children learn to listen, concentrate, work with others and keep trying when something doesn’t come easily.
These are skills that can benefit them in the training hall, at school and in everyday life.
Taught by a Teacher
Chief Instructor Mike has something a little different to bring to children’s martial arts: 20 years of experience as a primary school teacher.
He understands how children learn, how to keep them engaged and how to make lessons fun without losing structure or discipline.
Mike is supported in classes by our experienced senior-grade students, easily spotted in their red shirts. Andrew also covers Kids Kung Fu classes when Mike is away.
Structured. Fun. Focused.
There’s plenty of laughter in our Kids Kung Fu classes, but there’s also a purpose behind what we do.
Games aren’t simply there to fill time. They’re used to teach movement, reactions, coordination, awareness and martial arts skills.
Children learn when it’s time to have fun, when it’s time to listen and when it’s time to focus.
Safe, Controlled Sparring
Children can also learn to put their Kung Fu skills into practice through controlled sparring.
For younger students, we approach sparring more like a game of tag. There are no strikes to the head, and sessions are carefully supervised by our instructors.
It’s a safe way for children to develop reactions, movement, control and confidence while learning an important part of traditional Kung Fu.
Progress at Their Own Pace
Our students progress through a traditional sash grading system, giving them achievable goals to work towards.
There’s no rush to reach the next grade. Children develop at different speeds, and we believe a new sash should represent genuine progress.
We want them to learn that achieving something worthwhile takes practice, patience and perseverance.
No Pressure. No Competition.
EMKF isn’t a competitive martial arts club.
Children aren’t being trained to beat the person standing next to them. They’re encouraged to learn together, help one another and take pride in their own progress.
That creates a friendly environment where children can challenge themselves without the pressure of having to be “the best”.
A Place for Every Child
We want Kung Fu to be accessible to as many children as possible.
Our classes welcome children with different abilities, personalities and learning styles, including disabled and neurodivergent children. Where needed, we can adapt our approach to help individual students take part, learn and progress.
If your child needs a little extra support, you’re always welcome to speak to us before their first class.
And What About Parents?
You’re welcome to watch, particularly while your child is settling in.
But once they’re comfortable, we often encourage parents to give them a little independence and let them enjoy their class without an audience.
You can relax in our dedicated waiting area instead, with free refreshments while they train.
Start Kids Kung Fu for Free
Your child doesn’t need to be sporty, confident or naturally coordinated to start.
That’s what training is for.
They’ll be welcomed into the class, introduced to the basics and encouraged to learn at their own pace.
New students can start with a free trial, plus receive 10% off when they join.
