What should I wear to my first lesson?

Loose comfortable clothing (e.g. joggers/leggings & t-shirt).

What should I bring to class with me?

All you will need is a drink for your first class. As you progress you might want to get your own sparring kit, which is available through the club.

Where can I park?

There are multiple places to park in Market Harborough, most of which are free after 6pm.

How often do I need to train?

How much you train very much depends on your goals. We offer many classes per week. The more you attend the quicker the progress you are likely to make. However, if you can only attend one session per week please do not let this put you off. Training once a week is better than nothing and you can always increase the sessions you attend in the future.

Do you do a free trial class?

Yes, we offer two weeks free unlimited access training. This way we can be sure we are the right club for you.

Will I learn to defend myself?

Yes, but not overnight! Self-defence is based on situational awareness, tactics, fitness and well practiced self-defence techniques. These things take time to learn. The good news is that by training with us you will develop all these skills while getting fit and having fun.

Is there a chance I will get hurt while practicing martial arts?

As with any sport or physical activity, there is a chance of getting injured while training martial arts. The most common injuries are small bruises from practicing blocking attacks during training. We take steps to avoid injury by ensuring students wear safety equipment when doing any sparring and emphasizing the importance of supportive and respectful practice during partner work. Furthermore, by becoming more fit, coordinated and improving your flexibility and balance, training martial arts is likely to decrease your chances of injury in your day to day life.

What are different belts in East Midlands Kung Fu?

We have 7 grades below black sash: White, Blue, Orange, Green, Yellow, Purple and Brown.

We also have 5 levels of black sash that reflect the levels of advanced training you have undertaken.

How long will it take to get my black belt?

How long it takes to achieve your black belt (sash) depends on factors such as how many times a week you attend sessions, how quickly you learn new things and how much time you are willing to put into your training outside class. The quickest a very dedicated student might achieve their black sash is 5 years. Mike took over 10 years to gain his.
